I began my yoga practice in 2012 and started teaching in 2017 after completing a two-year, 250-hour training course. Pilates came along a little later, in 2019, and I gained a Level 3 Diploma in Mat-Based Pilates in 2021.
Like many people who first step onto the mat, I didn’t begin as a naturally flexible or athletic person. My practice started as an antidote to a stressful life. Yoga felt good — it made me feel whole, grounded, steady and focused. Most importantly, it helped to relieve stress.
The addition of Pilates brought a new dimension. Where yoga created space and ease, Pilates introduced control and precision. It strengthened the foundations, improved my stability, and helped everything feel more supported — as though the whole system had been gently tightened and organised from within.
Over time, something began to shift.
Through consistent practice, my body became stronger, more mobile and more balanced. My core strength improved, my posture changed, and movements that once felt awkward or restricted began to feel natural and fluid. Over the years, the relationship I have with my body has completely transformed. No longer a problem to be solved, my body has become my home and my ally.
Instead of forcing my body to “be better” or “do more,” I have learned to listen to it, work with it and respect its limitations. Caring for your body looks very different in reality than simply hammering it with exercise or chasing perfection through diet. When we begin to work with the body rather than against it, it responds in kind.
We’ve been conditioned to believe our bodies are not good enough. My experience has shown me the opposite is true. The body is already intelligent, capable and worthy of care — it simply asks for patience, attention and respect.
That is the spirit I bring into my teaching.

YOGA FOR STRESS RELIEF
Meditation, yoga Nidra, (the yoga of sleep,) and restorative yoga, (a floor based practise using a variety of props for total comfort,) are all blissful remedies for busy modern life. Our depleted nervous systems are fired into “fight or flight” on an all too regular basis, leading to a variety of health issues such as chronic stress, physical tension, digestive issues, anxiety, insomnia, autoimmune conditions, depression and more.
Once we have worked off the stress hormones created by our fight or flight response through yoga asana, (yoga poses,) and energy block release sequences, these softer, restorative, gentler practises will help to calm your sympathetic nervous system. You'll dive deliciously into “rest and digest” mode, allowing for healing, wellbeing and energy conservation. Think of it as recharging your batteries, or filling up your cup!
I regularly include these practises in my weekly classes, workshops and retreats as the health benefits are, quite simply, transformative.
